Bracelets are perhaps one of the most versatile pieces of jewelry a man can own.
In this guide, we’ll provide some insight on how you can get the most out of wearing a bracelet and make your outfits pop!
Check that your bracelet is right for your wrist
If you’re used to wearing a watch, choosing the appropriate bracelet for your wrist size should come naturally, but the general rule is that the wider your wrist is, the wider your bracelet should be.
Fit is important, too, because whilst you don’t want your bracelet cutting off the circulation to your hand, having it slide up and down your arm as you go about your day gets pretty annoying very quickly. When trying a bracelet on, make sure that it sits on your wrist rather than hugging or hanging off it.
Choose the right bracelet for your attire
Bracelets are a great way to express yourself, whatever the occasion, but it is important to make sure that your bracelet complements your outfit rather than becomes the centerpiece. For example, a flashy multicolored bracelet might look great with a casual outfit but terrible with a suit.
Casual
This is where you can get the most creative with your bracelet choice.
Personally, my go-to is beaded bracelets, as they can complement the casual look amazingly well, especially if you pair them with your outfit. For example, I’ve been wearing a lot of blues lately, so my current go-to is my lapis lazuli bracelet. You needn’t worry about sizing either because most beaded bracelets are elastic, which also makes them a breeze to throw on in the morning.
Alternatively, you could opt for a band, chain or a link bracelet which are less bulky but harder to put on (unless you have this bracelet fastener tool, which has been a godsend).
Formal
When the event calls for formal attire, you can’t go wrong with a subtle brown or black leather band, as these pair well with the classic white or black shirt.
Minimal bands or chain bracelets work well, too; just be sure to choose a metal that compliments your skin tone and not mix metals (more on that below).
Business
Just because you’re suited and booted doesn’t mean that you can’t wear a bracelet. Like colorful socks, bracelets can be a great way to bring some individuality to an otherwise formal outfit. Bracelets that are subtle and elegant, such as metal bands, chain links or cuffs, work great with a suit.
Styling tips
Stack your bracelets
Bracelet stacking is a trend that has seen a big uptake recently, with celebrities like Jason Momoa, Chris Hemsworth and Johnny Depp jumping on board.
If you’re going to try this, the general rule is to wear no more than three that match a similar theme, but this isn’t always a hard rule. Thinner bracelets are best for stacking; however, thick bracelets can make your arms look short, especially if you are stacking more than three.
Wearing a bracelet with a watch
Another big trend is wearing a bracelet with a watch, which can be a great way to bring out its features. Just be sure to use a bracelet that doesn’t contrast with the watch too much. For example, you could match the Lapis Lazuli bracelet mentioned above with a blue face watch to bring out its color.
Just be careful, however, when wearing a watch made of precious metals, as these could scratch easily when paired with a bracelet made of hard materials such as metal or glass.
Matching your bracelet with other jewelry
Finally, if you are a person who wears other jewelry (especially metal), such as a necklace or ring, try to match your bracelet and stick to a theme to avoid looking uncoordinated.
For example, if you wear silver-colored jewelry, a gold bracelet could contrast too much and draw too much attention to the wrist you are wearing it on.
